Why Therapists Burn Out
There's something nobody talks about in clinical training.
You can do everything right. Hold space beautifully. Ask the perfect questions. Sit with someone in their darkest moment without flinching. And then drive home carrying every bit of it in your body.
Most of us call that empathy. Or dedication.
Or just the job.
But what you're feeling on that drive home isn't just emotional residue. It's energy. And if you don't clear it. it doesn't leave.
I learned this the hard way.
A couple of years ago I was working in an intensive program. Eleven hour days. Sometimes more.
Getting home way too late to my boys, exhausted in a way that sleep wasn't fixing. I had no time for my own practice, no time or energy work, no time for anything that would actually fill me back up. I had to leave that position entirely just to reclaim my own nervous system.
What I found on the other side changed everything.
When I started actually practicing the energy tools again, something shifted. Not just in how I felt, but in how I showed up for clients. I wasn't absorbing their pain the same way. I had a container. I used my toolkit to ground before a session, clear after, and come home to myself.
My boys made sure of it.
My boys can read auras. I know how that sounds, but they will walk up to me after a heavy day and say, Mom, you need to clear your energy. And then they'll watch me do it.
And when I'm done they'll say "okay, the brown is gone, the black is gone."
Just like my sister used to do for me.
I don't see energy, I feel it. So, when I clear, I feel the heaviness lift, and I feel my energy field rebalance around me. Like a cool breeze on a summer day.
The boys notice when I haven't cleared. Not only in my aura, but in how I act and the energy I bring to our interactions. And they taught me, more than any training every did, that consistency matters.
And if you're a mom who's also a therapist, like me, you're managing, multiple energy fields at once. Because we are all connected by energy. In scientific circles, it's known as quantum entanglement.
These tools aren't optional for us. They're what sustain us.
This is what the Foundations course teaches.
Not just for your clients. For you.
How to ground your energy before you walk into a session. How to clear what you've absorbed before you walk out. How to raise your vibrational state so you're bringing your full self to the work, not the depleted version who's been carrying everyone else's stuff since Monday.
These tools reduce burnout. Not because they're a nice self-care add on, but because they address what's actually happening energetically when you hold space for trauma all day.
And when you know how to work with energy yourself, you can begin to bring these tools to your clients. The ones who have done years of talk therapy and are still stuck. The ones where something deeper is needed and you've felt it but haven't known what to do with that feeling. Or how to help.
The woo woo you were told to leave at the door? It has a home here.
